Guests can enjoy traditional festivals in Piegaro during any season!
In spring is Corpus Domini, An Explosion of Flowers! One of the most beautiful days to be in Piegaro. Early in the morning, after climbing hillsides in search of yellow ginestra and green ivy, gathering the delicate red poppies that bloom in profusion in every field, cutting geraniums and roses in gardens, guests help turn the cobblestone streets into a maze of floral tapestries, filling a heart with roses or creating a trail of ginestra. Since the 13th Century, Corpus Domini is a festival held sixty days after Easter celebrating the Eucharist. Tapestries called “infiorata” are created in Spello and Orvieto. But for sheer intimacy and passionate small town fun, the village of Piegaro is the place! Visitors are warmly welcomed to join in. See our celebration at: Corpus Domini in Piegaro
In August, travel back time to medieval days for our il Giorni del Vetro: Days of Glass Festival! Don a medieval costume and join in the Royal Corteo as we follow the drummers in a procession through the narrow cobblestone streets. Whether you are a noble or a peasant, this is a day to honor Piegaro's heritage and fame as a glass making capital of Italy, just as important as Murano. Three days of festival with music, food, glass artisans working their craft and booths of glass art and jewelry. Enjoy the video at: Time Travel to Medieval Days in Piegaro, Umbria
When the days shorten and harvest is upon us is the time for ten days of revelry in our annual Sagra della Castagna, The Chestnut Festival! Chestnuts are roasting in every piazza, food booths offer Torta al Testo, chestnut pastries and the first wine, Mosto, barely fermented. Full course feasts, pizza, music every night with dancing and theater performances fill the ten days of celebration. Traditional crafts booths of straw weaving, jewelry making and glass blowing offer shopping opportunities. This festival is autumn at its best!
